Middle School Art

5th -8th grades

​

Students will expand upon the knowledge and skill developed in the elementary school art program.  Emphasis will be on the basic elements and principles of art.  The works created will be primarily two-dimensional in the areas of drawing, possibly painting, and/or collage.  Students will extend artistic, creative, and critical thinking skills through specific experiences by creating, discussions, and reflecting upon personal works of art and the works of others.

Students will expand upon their knowledge of the basic elements and principles of art while putting them into practice. The works created will be primarily two-dimensional in the areas of drawing, painting, printmaking, construction and/or collage.  Students will extend artistic, creative, and critical thinking skills through specific experiences by creating, discussions, and reflecting upon personal works of art and the works of others.

  • Sketchbook (8.5 x 11 to 11 x 14) any brand that’s 50 to 65 lb. weight paper

  • Graphite Drawing Pencils (they can be bought individually, or in sets for drawing and shading). The average six-pencil set will have a 2H, HB, B, 2B, 4B, and a 6B. These numbers correspond with the hardness of the graphite.

  • Drawing Pencils 101

  • Harder pencils make lighter lines (Pencil numbers with an "H")

  • Softer pencils make darker lines (Pencil numbers with a "B")

  • Kneaded Eraser

  • Art Pencil Sharpener: Metal hand-held sharpeners are easy to use and allow you to see the pencil tip as it's being sharpened.

  • Ruler

  • Paint Brushes

  • Color Wheel
